Dr Garett Smith and Dr Steve Leibman are both Australian trained general surgeons. They have both undergone specialist
training in advanced surgery after obtaining their fellowships of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. Each of
them has completed 2 years of concentrated training in advanced laparoscopic and Upper Gastrointestinal Surgery.
Dr Garett Smith and Dr Steve Leibman both hold consultant specialist surgeons appointments at the Royal North
Shore and the North Shore Private Hospitals. They are both involved in clinical care, teaching, and research. Both
Garett and Steve actively participate in training of surgeons from both Australia and overseas. They perform a wide
range of surgical procedures including cancer surgery and minimally invasive (laparoscopic) surgery for
gastro-oesophageal reflux disease, gallstones, hernias, and obesity.

Because they work together, their patients always know that there is a specialist surgeon available to them, even if
one of them is away for a time. Also, Garett and Steve often operate together and therefore patients are constantly
under the care of 2 experts.
